VFE:99% - The Viral Filtration Efficiency (VFE), which can filter out 99% of 0.0001mm particles and virus. VFE is the highest filtration standard. PFE:99% The Particle Filtration Efficiency (PFE) test evaluates the nonviable particle retention or filtration efficiency of filter media and other filtration devices at sub-micron levels. This test is performed on face masks and all filter material that allows 1 cubic foot per minute (CFM) flow to pass through it.

Challenge controls are maintained at 1100-3300 plaque-forming units (PFU) with a mean particle size (MPS) of 3.0 ± 0.3 µm. This allows filtration efficiencies to be reported up to >99.9%.

BFE:99% -Bacterial Filtration Efficiency or BFE is a measurement of a material's resistance to penetration of bacteria. Results are reported as percent efficiency and correlate with the ability of the fabric to resist bacterial penetration. Higher numbers in this test indicate better barrier efficiency.
